Assessing Primary Writing Year 6 Redraft - 2026
In 2026, we have a new addition to our standard Assessing Primary Writing calendar: a Y6 Redraft task. Here is how it works.
- Our standard Year 6 Assessing Primary Writing assessment window took place in March 2026. Your results are now available, and include a full suite of extensive AI-generated feedback.
- You can now share this feedback with your students—how you do this is entirely up to you, and you can of course supplement it with your own comments.
- After receiving and working with the feedback, students can redraft their original piece of writing.
- You can then submit this redrafted piece of work to be assessed again as part of a national assessment window. The deadline for submitting the redrafted writing is Wednesday 22 April. The scores of both the original and redrafted piece of work will be on the same scale, allowing you to measure the impact of the feedback.
- To take part, you’ll need to print off a new set of answer sheets and get your students to write their redraft on them. If you go to the “current task” section of your account, you will see the new task is there waiting for you. It is called "APW 2025-2026 Year 6 Apr".
- You will need to re-upload the spreadsheet with the names of your stduents.
Further information
- For both the original assessment and the redraft, you can use AI judges. We recommend getting the AI judges to do 90% of your judgements, but for the redraft you might want to get them to complete 100% to save you time. You can read more about how long it takes to judge using AI here.
- We ran a similar project last year called CJ Dynamo which provided us with very detailed insights into how students respond to feedback. You can read more about it here.
- If you took part in the original Y6 assessment but didn't turn on AI features, you can do so retrospectively. If you do this, you will be able to get the full AI feedback reports. Let us know at support@nomoremarking.com if you would like to do this.
