Writing Week for handwritten tasks

What happens this week?

This week is the week set aside for your students to write. The students will be asked to respond to a stimulus which was released days prior to the writing week. You should set aside an hour for your students to complete their writing.

What should I have prepared?

You should have the stimulus, which you may either print off for each student or display on a board. Every student should have their own coded paper to write on. Ideally students should write in pen as pencil can scan poorly and be hard to read. If you wish, you may give pupils a sheet of blank non-coded paper to plan their writing and make notes but don't give students additional pages to submit as they won't be read when they are uploaded.

What are the conditions of writing?

The writing is independent. Please do not edit the task in any way or give pupils any extra resources such as sentence starters, success criteria, exercise books or other external aids. Please do not edit or correct the pupils’ work in any way. For year groups younger than 8 years of age (year 3 and below in the UK) you may give students time to discuss the task with the person sitting next to them. For all other year groups please ensure the task is completed cold with no additional support.

What if I have absentees?

After the writing week there is a small period of time before judging begins. You can continue to add scans until the judging commences. After the judging has started we do not recommend you add any more scans as your students work may not be judged or moderated.

What if I miss the deadline?

If you completely miss the deadline you may wish to contact us to set up a custom task for you to help with your measurement of progress.
