Adding anchors
If you are a subscriber and you want to create a custom task, we recommend getting in touch with us first by emailing support@nomoremarking.com We can offer you some extra support, and make sure that the results you get are in line with our national scales.
Anchor scripts are scripts from previous judging sessions which you can use in new judging sessions to make sure both judging sessions are on the same scale. This allows you to see the progress pupils are making between judging sessions.
We make public anchor sets available to all our subscribers after our national judging sessions. The anchor sets consist of anchor scripts that span the range of the scale for a year group. If you wish to setup an anchored custom task, you can fill up this form so we can set it up for you https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScJjZDvz6ytgRAxfeLuCIdcI6N_dQmrtOfGDP_tcdCR0U2FVQ/viewform. But, if you wish to do it yourself, please follow this guide:
Add the public anchors to your in-house task
To use the public anchors, create your task as normal, printing out Coded sheets and uploading scans of completed answer sheets. Before you start judging, however, you need to add in our anchors.
When you click into your task from the task list and then click on Populate, generate, download & print coded sheets, it will take you to the Candidates page.
Click on the Anchors tab:
You should see the public anchor sets listed, along with your own local anchor sets. Click on the Public Anchors anchor set you would like to use.
Once you've clicked on it, you can now see all the anchor scripts in a table on the right of the screen. You can see the Scaled Scores they were each awarded. Clicking on the name of the script (the 'Candidate' column) will let you see it.
Once you are happy that you wish to use the anchor set, click on the 'Add Anchor Set to Current Task' button. This will add all of these scripts to your in-house task, in this example the Assessing Primary Writing Year 4 anchors from 2023-2024:
When you return to your Candidates screen on your in-house task (by clicking the View tab) you will see that this set of public anchors has been added to it. This means that once you have completed your judging, the marks of your scripts will be on the same scale as these anchor scripts.
Carry out the task
Carry out the in-house task in the normal manner - import candidate details, complete the task, upload pdf files of the completed scripts, set up your judges, and carry out the judging.
Download the results CSV file with writing ages
When the task has been completed, download the results from your in-house task, by going to the particular task, pressing the 'Refresh Scores' button to make sure that all information is up to date, and then clicking on Check results:
You should see a table similar to the one below:
Click the 'Candidate Results' button to download a CSV file of the candidates' results.
The file will look similar to this:
The Scaled Scores should be on our national writing scale (stretching from around 300 to 700).
If the scaled scores are not on the national writing scale then the writing ages will not be accurate. This is why our public anchors needed to be included in the in-house task prior to the judging, for the scores to be on this national scale.
Also, based on the date of birth (dob) of the pupil and the date of uploading the Candidates details, we can calculate Actual Age. And based on the scaled score (score) we can also calculate Writing Age Years. Therefore, we can see whether the pupil is performing above or below expectations (Difference in Years/Months).
