Double Marker: Prepare and upload a pupil CSV
Prepare and upload a pupil CSV in Double Marker
School admins upload pupil details to a specific Double Marker task. Prepare a CSV file with a header row and one row per pupil, then check the pupil list after importing it.
Prepare your CSV
The uploader lets you choose which column supplies each field. These headings make the mapping easier to check:
Column | Required? | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Recommended | A unique, consistent school reference for the pupil, such as an exam or admission number. |
| Yes | The pupil's first name. |
| Yes | The pupil's surname. |
| Yes | The pupil's class or teaching group, such as |
| No | Prefer |
| No |
|
For example:
Identifier,First Name,Last Name,Class Group,Date of Birth,Gender
EX001,Alex,Patel,10A,2010-05-14,M
EX002,Sam,Evans,10B,2010-11-02,FSave the file as CSV (.csv). Each row must have a first name, last name and class group. Keep identifiers unique within the task. The site uses them to recognise existing pupils when you upload a corrected file later; a row without an identifier is treated as a new pupil.
Upload your CSV
- Sign in to Double Marker and open Tasks.
- Select the task you want to add pupils to. This opens its Pupils page.
- Select Upload CSV and choose your file.
- In the Import Pupils CSV window, check the file name, row count and preview.
- Check that First Name, Last Name and Class Group are mapped to the correct columns. Map Identifier, Date of Birth and Gender if you have included them. A CSV column can only be assigned to one field.
- Select Import CSV. Review the confirmation showing how many pupils will be added, updated or left unchanged, then confirm.
- Check the success message and review the pupil list before downloading booklets.
Correct an upload
You can edit pupil details on the Pupils page or upload a revised CSV. Rows with identifiers already on the task update those pupils; rows with new or missing identifiers add pupils. Reimporting a file does not remove pupils who are absent from the revised file.
If the import fails, check the error shown on the page. Common causes are a missing required value, an incorrect column mapping or a duplicate identifier. Pupil changes are restricted after scan confirmation, marker allocation or marking begins, so check the list before moving to those stages.
